Our mission: exploring, documenting, and telling the story of life
Biosphoto is an independent photo agency specializing in nature, biodiversity, natural environments, gardening, agriculture, and contemporary ecological issues.
Founded on the belief that images can raise awareness, change perceptions, and act as a lever for action on behalf of the planet, Biosphoto serves as a visual bridge between scientists, field photographers, publishers, media, institutions… and the general public.
Through nearly 1.5 million images, we contribute daily to a visual culture of the living world—rigorous, poetic, and committed.
Our ambition: to make imagery a tool for knowledge, awareness, and mobilization.
A story of pioneers and passion
Founded by Catherine Deulofeu in 1987, at a time when nature photography was often marginalized in professional circles, Biosphoto was born from a simple and powerful intuition: the natural world deserves a visual representation that matches it—comprehensive, scientific, sensitive, and committed.
Photographers and naturalists noted a severe lack of high-quality images to illustrate scientific articles, nature books, educational programs, and environmental campaigns. Most existing photo libraries covered flora and fauna only marginally. Biosphoto made this its core mission.
From the outset, the agency surrounded itself with passionate photographers, often trained in natural sciences and skilled in the patient observation of the wild world. Over the decades, it has become a major international player, known for:
- the excellence of its content,
- the reliability of its taxonomic labeling,
- the strength of its editorial vision.
A unique visual archive
Biosphoto’s image collection is now one of the richest in the world, exclusively dedicated to nature, biodiversity, ecology, the environment, and ecological gardening.
This nature photo library is updated daily and caters to professionals in visual communication, nature conservation, environmental education, publishing, and research. It covers:
- wildlife and global wildlife: mammals, birds, insects, reptiles, amphibians, fish, invertebrates, microorganisms, endangered species, endemic species, rare behaviors, wildlife photography…
