A photographer of extreme lands, Armand Patoir captures the raw beauty of polar and wild landscapes.

A French photographer born in 1990 in the Alps, Armand Patoir explores the world with a unique sensitivity, in search of beauty in the most isolated territories. Trained as an engineer, he has carried out several missions in extreme environments, notably in the Kerguelen Islands and Antarctica, where he directed a scientific station. These extraordinary experiences have nurtured a body of photographic work focused on silence, natural light and the raw power of the elements.

Specializing in landscape and polar photography, Armand Patoir uses an old-fashioned fixed-focus camera and lenses. Each image is meticulously crafted, with manual focusing, total control over exposure and attention to detail. This precise, artisanal approach gives rise to powerful, poetic and timeless compositions.

His work explores notions of beauty, isolation and contemplation. Through his series on ice, snow, wind and rock, he reveals a world where the human disappears to make way for the essential.

In summer, a team of around 25 technicians from various trades carry out various maintenance tasks at the resort. This includes the electrical distribution network, which is put to the test by the cold and temperature variations, and whose needs, particularly for scientific installations, are constantly increasing. Biosphoto | 2590467 | A German BGR helicopter used in Terre Victoria to transport geologists to specific research points. These are one-off scientific programs, involving the collaboration of several countries, in this case Germany and Italy. The Germans set up a base camp several dozen kilometers from the Italian Mario Zucchelli station, using Italian logistical resources such as the Laura Bassi icebreaker to transport the helicopter, the equipment needed to set up the base camp, scientific equipment and, of course, personnel.
