Based in Loire-Atlantique, underwater photographer Bruno Guénard explores freshwater fauna and wetlands.
A French nature photographer based in the Nantes region, Bruno Guénard specialises in underwater photography, both in freshwater and at sea. An experienced diver, he has been practising underwater photography since the early 2000s, first on the Atlantic coast around the island of Oléron, then in the pools, ponds and rivers of the Loir-et-Cher department. He documents aquatic fauna in its various stages of development: mayfly, caddisfly and dragonfly larvae, amphibians, crustaceans and fish, as well as their immediate environment.
His approach is based on prolonged immersion in environments that are often little explored by photographers, particularly the calm, turbid waters of inland France. He uses the specific conditions of light and visibility to highlight the behaviour, body structures and interactions of aquatic species. He also works in terrestrial environments around wetlands, which allows him to follow the evolution of the same species in different environments.
Bruno Guénard regularly expands his projects to more exotic marine ecosystems, where he photographs iconic species and scenes of predation or reproduction. He has been recognised in several international competitions (Montier-en-Der, Namur, FMISM in Marseille, Golden Turtle) and has exhibited in Montier-en-Der on the theme of the crested newt. His images contribute to accurately documenting aquatic habitats and their biodiversity, in connection with conservation issues.
