Montgomery Gilchrist is a natural world photographer who formed a love of exploration during his childhood on a sailboat in the Caribbean and South America. Photography came first, followed by SCUBA diving after repeated viewings of BBC’s Blue Planet. Combining the two allows Montgomery to showcase the ocean’s beauty and variety to those unaware of what lies beneath the waves.
His photographic interests vary between patterns in the landscape to hidden life; whether it be tide pools or blackwater fauna.
His homebase in Southern California sits between desert and ocean; both ecosystems offer ample opportunities for photography, both under and above the water. Traveling the world provides photographic variety; but spending time with the underwater landscapes of Western North America helps him appreciate how these ecosystems change as the year progresses.
