Hungarian photographer Zoltán Ritzel excels at capturing rare moments in wildlife.
Zoltán Ritzel is a Hungarian photographer specialising in wildlife photography. He is renowned for his ability to capture rare and memorable animal behaviour, often in difficult natural conditions.
One of his most famous works is entitled Seed Selection, an image that won the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2013 award. This photograph shows a chickadee picking a seed from a sunflower, captured with remarkable precision through the use of a panoramic lens and remote shutter release. Ritzel took photos over several days, experimenting with angles and lighting, to capture this precise moment. He described the shot as a ‘special moment’ that he knew he had captured immediately when he reviewed the images.
Based in the Börzsöny region of southern Hungary, Ritzel mainly photographs the birds and flora of his region. His work is characterised by patience, meticulous technique and a commitment to nature. His images are regularly exhibited and published in international wildlife photography competitions.
